The nation and the world just got the sad news of the passing of the former 41st. President of the United States, George H.W. Bush. This comes as less a surprise since he had been in bad health for some time, and sadly his beloved wife, Barbara Bush had only recently passed as well. But still…
Each experience I had with this President was a good one. Like anyone in his position, he had the weight of the world on his shoulders. He had a world worth of concerns to have on his mind. He had a schedule of meetings with other world leaders, each, certainly a bit more important than me. And yet, he was always pleasant and present. He joked with me, he took the time to take photos with the dozens of anxious other Law Enforcement Officers on the moving details. This is a tradition that all Presidents participate in when time allows. It was an honor that I enjoyed with most all Presidents I served. There were several occasions while with the U.S. Government on overseas deployments I was not able to do this traditional practice. This one, a special one, I will cherish.
God Bless George H.W. Bush, say hello to Barbara, who I also experienced as a surprisingly open and friendly person. Surprising only because you have in your mind that these people are much too important and busy to consider the little people. Well, they, the Bush family, were special and nice.
